Senrebotase is an engineered botulinum neurotoxin derivative developed for the treatment of overactive bladder and postherpetic neuralgia. It is a recombinant protein designed to target specific neuronal pathways involved in these conditions. The drug acts as an antagonist at nociceptin/orphanin FQ peptide (OOR) receptor and soluble NSF attachment protein receptor (SNARE) complex, thereby inhibiting neurotransmitter release and modulating pain or bladder function. Senrebotase completed phase 2 clinical trials for overactive bladder syndrome and postherpetic neuralgia but was discontinued before approval. The original developer was Health Protection Agency Porton Down1, with later development by Allergan UC (now part of AbbVie). Its modality is classified as a peptide/protein therapeutic administered by injection[1][2][3][5][7].
