Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Seocalcitol is a synthetic analog of vitamin D designed to act as an agonist of the vitamin D receptor (VDR). It exhibits antineoplastic activity and has been studied primarily for its potential in treating hepatocellular carcinoma and other cancers. Seocalcitol binds to the VDR with high affinity and modulates gene transcription involved in cell proliferation and differentiation. Compared to calcitriol (the active form of vitamin D), seocalcitol demonstrates significantly reduced hypercalcemic effects while maintaining potent antiproliferative properties. Clinical trials have evaluated its efficacy in advanced liver cancer and other malignancies[2][3][8][9].
