Sepetaprost (ONO-9054) is a first-in-class dual agonist of the prostaglandin F (FP) and prostaglandin E3 (EP3) receptors, developed for the reduction of intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Unlike conventional prostaglandin analogs that primarily target the FP receptor to increase uveoscleral outflow, sepetaprost's dual-action mechanism leverages the EP3 receptor to potentially provide superior efficacy in lowering intraocular pressure. Originally discovered by Ono Pharmaceutical, the compound was licensed to Santen Pharmaceutical for further clinical development and commercialization.
