Overview

Septaphage is a polyvalent bacteriophage cocktail developed by Biochimpharm for the treatment and prophylaxis of acute and chronic bacterial infections. The product contains a mixture of lytic bacteriophages that selectively target and destroy seven groups of pathogenic bacteria: *Shigella*, *Salmonella*, *Escherichia coli*, *Proteus*, *Enterococcus*, *Staphylococcus*, and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. The mechanism of action involves the selective infection of these pathogens, where the phages replicate within the bacterial cells and cause them to burst (lysis), while leaving the patient's natural microbiome intact. Septaphage is approved in Georgia for a variety of indications, including gastrointestinal infections (such as dysentery and salmonellosis), urogenital infections, and respiratory tract infections. It is typically administered as an oral solution, but can also be used topically or via other mucosal routes.
