SER-114

SER-114 (also known as SER014) is a small molecule antagonist of the transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) receptor, developed by Serentrix. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of dry eye disease and associated ocular pain and inflammation. TRPV1 is a non-selective cation channel expressed in corneal nerve fibers that responds to inflammatory ligands. SER-114 is specifically designed to block TRPV1 activity while avoiding the hyperthermia adverse events that have historically hindered the development of other TRPV1 antagonists. The compound has demonstrated clinical proof-of-concept in dry eye, pain, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and is considered Phase 2-ready for ophthalmic applications.
