Overview
SER-147 is an investigational live biotherapeutic product candidate developed by Seres Therapeutics. It is a cultivated microbial consortium of human commensal bacteria designed to restore colonization resistance and promote gastrointestinal (GI) homeostasis. The drug aims to mitigate infection in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) who are at high risk of bacterial infections, specifically gut-seeded spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) and bloodstream infections (BSIs). Its mechanism involves generating barrier-restorative metabolites, reducing inflammatory cytokine production, tolerating oxidative and acid stress, and decolonizing intestinal pathogens.
