Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SER-228 is a polymer-drug conjugate consisting of cannabidiol (CBD) covalently linked to a poly(2-oxazoline) (POZ) polymer. Developed by Serina Therapeutics using its proprietary POZ Platform™, the drug is designed to provide controlled and sustained release of CBD, potentially improving its pharmacokinetic profile and reducing dosing frequency compared to standard CBD formulations. The primary target indication for SER-228 is treatment-refractory epilepsy. In June 2020, Serina entered into an exclusive license agreement with Jazz Pharmaceuticals for the development of SER-228, but the collaboration was terminated in July 2021 following Jazz's acquisition of GW Pharmaceuticals. As of late 2023, SER-228 was positioned for IND-enabling studies.
