SER-314 is a small molecule antagonist of the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor, currently in pre-clinical development by Serentrix for the treatment of acute pancreatitis. TRPV1 is a non-selective cation channel that plays a critical role in the transmission of pain and the mediation of neurogenic inflammation. SER-314 is part of a series of compounds designed to inhibit TRPV1 activity while specifically avoiding the hyperthermia (elevated body temperature) side effects that hindered earlier generations of TRPV1 antagonists. By blocking TRPV1, SER-314 aims to reduce the inflammatory response and associated pain in patients suffering from acute pancreatitis.
