Overview

SER287 is an oral microbiome therapeutic consisting of a consortium of live bacterial spores derived from healthy human donors. Developed by Seres Therapeutics, it was designed to treat ulcerative colitis by modulating the gut microbiome to reduce inflammation without the need for systemic immunosuppression. The drug received FDA Orphan Drug Designation for pediatric ulcerative colitis. However, in July 2021, Seres announced that SER287 did not meet the primary endpoint of clinical remission in the Phase 2 ECO-RESET study in patients with mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis.
