Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Serafav is a branded generic pharmaceutical product containing serratiopeptidase, a proteolytic enzyme originally isolated from the non-pathogenic enterobacterium *Serratia* sp. E-15. Developed and marketed by Signova Pharma, it is primarily used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-edemic, and fibrinolytic properties. The drug functions by breaking down fibrin and other proteinaceous debris at the site of injury, as well as by hydrolyzing bradykinin, a key mediator of pain and inflammation. These actions help reduce swelling, improve microcirculation, and facilitate the drainage of inflammatory fluids. Serafav is commonly indicated in the Indian market for the management of post-surgical inflammation, traumatic edema, and various inflammatory conditions of the respiratory and musculoskeletal systems.
