Seratrodast is a small molecule drug that acts as a selective antagonist of the thromboxane A2 (TXA2) receptor, also known as the TP receptor. It was developed primarily for the treatment of asthma and was the first TP receptor antagonist to reach the market for this indication. By blocking TXA2-mediated bronchoconstriction and inflammation, seratrodast improves lung function and reduces asthma symptoms. It does not affect blood coagulation parameters such as prothrombin time or activated partial thromboplastin time, distinguishing it from thromboxane synthase inhibitors. The drug has been approved in Japan since 1997 and is marketed under various brand names in Japan, China, and India[1][2][7]. Clinical studies have shown its efficacy in improving peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and reducing markers of airway inflammation[8][10].
