Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Serdexmethylphenidate is a prodrug of the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant dexmethylphenidate. It is used in combination with dexmethylphenidate for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients aged six years and older. The drug increases extracellular levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the CNS by blocking their reuptake into presynaptic neurons, leading to altered neurotransmission. Serdexmethylphenidate itself has little or no binding to monoaminergic reuptake transporters; its therapeutic effect is due to its conversion to active dexmethylphenidate[3][5][6]. The combination product provides extended plasma concentrations and therapeutic benefit with once-daily dosing[6].
