Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sericin cream is an investigational topical biologic formulation containing sericin, a natural protein derived from the cocoons of the silkworm *Bombyx mori*. It is primarily developed for the treatment of uremic pruritus in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis. The drug exerts its therapeutic effect by suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), which are implicated in the inflammatory pathways of uremic pruritus. Clinical research conducted in Thailand has demonstrated that the cream significantly reduces pruritus intensity and improves skin hydration and irritation.
