Overview

Sermorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), specifically comprising the first 29 amino acids of endogenous human GHRH. It acts as a growth hormone secretagogue by binding to the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating the release of endogenous growth hormone (GH). This mechanism mimics natural physiological GH secretion patterns and is regulated by negative feedback via somatostatin. Sermorelin was primarily developed for diagnostic evaluation and treatment of children with growth hormone deficiency or failure to thrive due to insufficient endogenous GH production. Unlike exogenous recombinant human GH therapy, sermorelin promotes pulsatile GH release and supports maintenance of pituitary function[1][3][4][5][8].
