Serp-1m5 is a **PEGylated recombinant protein therapeutic** derived from Serp-1, which is an immune modulator serpin. PEGylation increases the half-life and decreases antigenicity of Serp-1. Serp-1m5 markedly reduces lung damage and hemorrhage in mouse models of **diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)**. Its mechanism of action is immune modulation, including suppression of M1 macrophage infiltration, reduction of complement C5b/9 (membrane attack complex) positive cells, and alteration of urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) distribution[1][3][5]. The drug is under investigation as a novel approach to treat inflammatory and immune-mediated tissue damage[1][3][5].
