Overview

Serratol refers to two distinct pharmacological entities. In scientific literature, it is a naturally occurring cembrane-type diterpene (S(-)-cembra-3E,7E,11E-triene-1-ol) isolated from the gum resin of *Boswellia serrata* (Indian Olibanum). This small molecule has been investigated in preclinical research for its antiprotozoal properties against pathogens such as *Trypanosoma brucei*, *Leishmania donovani*, and *Plasmodium falciparum*. Separately, 'Serratol' is used as a brand name for an antiemetic and antivertigo medication, typically described as a central anticholinergic or antimuscarinic agent indicated for the treatment of nausea, vomiting, and peripheral (labyrinthine) vertigo.
