Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Serratula coronata extract is a botanical preparation derived from the perennial herb *Serratula coronata*. The extract's primary active components are believed to be phytoecdysteroids, such as 20-hydroxyecdysone, polypodine B, and ajugasterone C, along with flavonoids. [1, 2] It has been investigated as a topical treatment for inflammatory skin conditions, particularly psoriasis. [2] In a clinical study, creams containing the extract demonstrated a beneficial effect on psoriatic lesions by significantly reducing plaque area, scaling, erythema, and infiltration. [5] Its mechanism is thought to involve anti-inflammatory actions and the normalization of keratinocyte differentiation, which helps to restore the skin barrier. [1, 6]
