Setrabet is a topical imidazole antifungal medication containing sertaconazole nitrate (2% w/w), developed by Med Manor Organics. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of superficial fungal skin infections, including tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), and cutaneous candidiasis. Sertaconazole works primarily by inhibiting the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase (CYP51A1), which blocks the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability, leakage of intracellular contents, and eventual fungal cell death. Additionally, sertaconazole exhibits anti-inflammatory and antipruritic properties by suppressing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
