Sertraline (Torrent Pharmaceuticals)

Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) developed by Torrent Pharmaceuticals as a generic bioequivalent to the reference listed drug, Zoloft (Pfizer). As a small molecule antidepressant, sertraline primarily works by binding to and inhibiting the serotonin transporter (SERT) in the presynaptic terminal. This action prevents the reuptake of serotonin, thereby increasing its concentration and prolonging its activity within the synaptic cleft, which helps alleviate symptoms of major depressive disorder and other psychiatric conditions. Torrent Pharmaceuticals has demonstrated the bioequivalence of its 100 mg tablet formulation through clinical studies comparing the rate and extent of absorption to Zoloft under both fasting and fed conditions in healthy volunteers.
