Sesame oil is a natural vegetable oil derived from the seeds of *Sesamum indicum*. In a clinical study led by the University of Basrah, it is being evaluated as a topical intervention to prevent chemotherapy-induced phlebitis in cancer patients. The oil is applied topically to the skin over the site of intravenous catheterization. Its therapeutic potential in this indication is attributed to its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, largely mediated by bioactive lignans such as sesamin and sesamol. These components are thought to reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokine production in the vascular endothelium, thereby protecting the vein from the chemical irritation typically caused by cytotoxic chemotherapy agents.
