Overview

Setastine is a second-generation H1-antihistamine used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions. As a selective antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor, it works by competitively inhibiting the action of histamine on effector cells, thereby reducing symptoms such as pruritus, erythema, and nasal congestion without significant sedative effects typical of first-generation antihistamines. It was originally developed by Egis Pharmaceuticals and is currently marketed or in the pipeline of companies like Anqing Echo Biopharmaceutical in China. The drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic urticaria, perennial allergic rhinitis, and other systemic allergic reactions.
