sevacizumab

Sevacizumab (SIM010603) is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Jiangsu Simcere Pharmaceutical as a biosimilar of bevacizumab. It specifically targets and neutralizes vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), a key protein that stimulates angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels). By binding to VEGF-A, sevacizumab prevents its interaction with the receptors VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2 on the surface of vascular endothelial cells. This blockade inhibits the signaling pathways responsible for endothelial cell proliferation and the development of tumor-associated vasculature, thereby depriving tumors of the oxygen and nutrients necessary for growth and metastasis. Sevacizumab has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for advanced or metastatic solid tumors and is approved in China under the brand name Enzebe for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.
