Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sevofran is a generic formulation of the volatile anesthetic sevoflurane, manufactured by Hana Pharmacy in South Korea. It is a small molecule, halogenated ether used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia in both adult and pediatric patients. Sevoflurane acts by modulating various ion channels in the central nervous system, primarily enhancing the activity of inhibitory GABA-A and glycine receptors while inhibiting excitatory nicotinic acetylcholine and NMDA receptors. Asan Medical Center conducted a Phase 4 clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Sevofran compared to the original branded sevoflurane (Ultane/Sevorane) in patients undergoing elective surgery under general anesthesia.
