sextaphag

Sextaphag is a polyvalent pyobacteriophage cocktail—a sterile solution containing a mixture of lytic bacteriophages targeting multiple pathogenic bacteria. It is designed for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory and enteric diseases caused by Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. (including Enterococcus), Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli. The product acts by specifically lysing these bacteria through phage infection and replication within susceptible bacterial cells. It is used both therapeutically for active infections (including purulent-inflammatory conditions) and prophylactically to prevent hospital-acquired infections or treat wounds. The preparation can be administered orally, locally (topically), or externally[1][2][3][4][8]. An important aspect of effective therapy is prior determination of the pathogen’s sensitivity to the phage cocktail[2]. Developed in Russia by NPO Microgen, it represents an alternative or adjunct to antibiotics in settings where antibiotic resistance is a concern.
