SF-MSC-EX is an autologous exosome-based therapy derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) isolated from synovial fluid. Developed by researchers at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, the therapy is designed to treat degenerative meniscal injuries by leveraging the regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties of MSC-derived extracellular vesicles. These exosomes contain a cargo of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that facilitate paracrine signaling to promote tissue repair and modulate the microenvironment within the knee joint. The treatment is administered via intra-articular injection and is being compared to the administration of the source synovial fluid-derived mesenchymal stem cells themselves in clinical trials.
