SF2a-TT15 vaccine + adjuvant is a synthetic glycan-based conjugate vaccine candidate designed to protect against infection by *Shigella flexneri* 2a, a major cause of bacillary dysentery (shigellosis). The vaccine consists of a synthetic pentadecasaccharide hapten that mimics three repeating units of the *S. flexneri* 2a O-antigen, covalently linked to tetanus toxoid (TT) as the carrier protein. The formulation may include an aluminum hydroxide (Alhydrogel) adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. Clinical studies have shown that both adjuvanted and non-adjuvanted formulations are safe and highly immunogenic in healthy adults, inducing robust anti-SF2a LPS IgG responses and memory B cell formation. The addition of alum as an adjuvant further enhances antibody titers and prolongs the duration of peak immune response[1][2][5]. Developed primarily for prevention of shigellosis/bacillary dysentery caused by *S. flexneri* 2a.
