SG1001 is a novel small-molecule antifungal candidate developed by Shenzhen Xianggen Biological Co., Ltd. It targets the Gwt1 (glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored wall protein 1) enzyme, an essential component in the fungal GPI-anchor biosynthesis pathway. Inhibition of Gwt1 prevents the localization of mannoproteins to the fungal cell wall, which disrupts cell wall integrity, inhibits biofilm formation, and reduces fungal virulence. SG1001 is being investigated for the treatment of invasive fungal diseases, such as those caused by *Candida* and *Aspergillus* species, including strains resistant to conventional antifungal therapies like echinocandins and azoles.
