Overview

SG227 is an investigational in vivo gene therapy being developed by Sana Biotechnology for the treatment of multiple myeloma. It utilizes Sana's fusosome platform, which consists of CD8-targeted fusogenic particles designed to deliver genetic material directly to CD8+ T cells within the patient's body. This delivery enables the T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), effectively creating BCMA-directed CAR T cells in vivo. The BCMA CAR construct used in SG227 has been previously validated in autologous CAR T cell therapy settings. Clinical development is projected to begin as early as mid-2027, contingent upon the clinical profile of Sana's related candidate, SG293.
