SG600-IL-24 is an oncolytic adenovirus engineered to express the cytokine **interleukin-24 (IL-24)**, also known as melanoma differentiation-associated gene-7 (MDA-7). It is developed as a **gene therapy** vector targeting **hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)**. SG600-IL-24 selectively kills hepatocellular carcinoma cells through p53-independent mechanisms and induces apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase. The vector functions by delivering the **IL-24 gene** into tumor cells, resulting in high levels of IL-24 protein expression, which mediates **antitumor activity** by downregulating STAT3 and proteins associated with metastasis and angiogenesis (such as MMP-2, XIAP, OPN, VEGF). SG600-IL-24 spares normal liver cells, exhibiting tumor-selective cytotoxicity. Key effects include suppression of tumor growth, inhibition of cancer cell migration/invasion, and induction of apoptosis in vitro and in vivo[1][2][3].
