Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SGCG is an investigational standardized Ayurvedic oral multiherbal formulation evaluated for symptomatic knee osteoarthritis in the Government of India NMITLI arthritis program. The published equivalence trial describes the Ayurvedic formulations as preparations of *Tinospora cordifolia*, *Zingiber officinale*, *Emblica officinalis*, and *Boswellia serrata* extracts. In a 24-week randomized, double-blind, multicenter comparison with glucosamine sulfate and celecoxib, SGCG was associated with reductions in knee pain and improved function; asymptomatic elevations in serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase occurred in some participants receiving Ayurvedic intervention and require safety consideration.
