SGM-1019

SGM-1019 is an oral small molecule inhibitor of the P2X7 receptor, developed by Evotec and Second Genome. It was investigated for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and inflammatory bowel diseases. The drug acts as a P2X7 receptor antagonist, modulating the gastrointestinal microbiome and inhibiting inflammasome activation—mechanisms implicated in inflammation and fibrosis. Preclinical studies demonstrated antifibrotic effects, including reduced hepatic stellate cell activation and collagen deposition in animal models. Clinical development reached Phase 2 for NASH but was discontinued after trials showed limited efficacy or other challenges[1][3][5][6].
