SGN2 is an engineered oncolytic bacterial therapy developed by Guangzhou Sinogen Pharmaceutical (also known as Huajin Pharmaceutical Technology). It utilizes an attenuated strain of *Salmonella typhimurium* as a vector to deliver and express the enzyme L-methioninase directly within the tumor microenvironment. This approach exploits the 'Hoffman effect,' where many cancer cells exhibit an absolute requirement for the amino acid methionine. By enzymatically depleting methionine, SGN2 induces metabolic stress, inhibits protein synthesis, and promotes apoptosis in solid tumors. The therapy is designed for systemic administration via intravenous injection and is currently in early-stage development for various solid malignancies.
