Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SGX203 is a proprietary oral formulation of beclomethasone 17,21-dipropionate (BDP), a potent corticosteroid designed for the treatment of pediatric Crohn’s disease. The drug consists of two tablets—one with immediate release and one with delayed (enteric-coated) release—to deliver BDP throughout both the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. This targeted delivery aims to maximize local anti-inflammatory effects in the gut while minimizing systemic steroid exposure and associated side effects. BDP acts as an agonist at corticosteroid receptors, suppressing local inflammation by inhibiting infiltration of inflammatory cells. SGX203 has received Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations from the FDA for pediatric Crohn’s disease[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
