Overview

SH-PM is an investigational small molecule dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) inhibitor developed by Nanjing Sanhome Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for the treatment of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP), an opportunistic fungal infection that is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients, such as those with HIV/AIDS or those undergoing immunosuppressive therapy. By inhibiting the DHFR enzyme, SH-PM disrupts the folic acid synthesis pathway necessary for the production of thymidine and other nucleotides, effectively halting the replication of the *Pneumocystis* pathogen. The drug is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in humans.
