Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sham PC-TEAS (Patient-Controlled Transcutaneous Electrical Acupoint Stimulation) is a control intervention used in clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of true PC-TEAS therapy. It mimics the appearance and procedure of the active treatment but does not deliver actual electrical stimulation. In sham PC-TEAS, the device has normal screen displays but uses nonconductive gel patches that prevent the normal output of current, making it an inactive comparator. This placebo control helps researchers determine the specific therapeutic effects of true PC-TEAS beyond placebo effects in conditions such as cancer-induced bone pain.
