Shanvac-B

Shanvac-B is a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine consisting of purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in the yeast Pichia pastoris and formulated with an adjuvant to elicit protective immunity against hepatitis B virus infection.[3][4][7] Developed in India by Shantha Biotechnics in the 1990s as the country’s first genetically engineered hepatitis B vaccine, it induces active immunization by stimulating production of anti‑HBs antibodies, achieving high seroconversion and seroprotection rates after a standard intramuscular dosing schedule.[3][4] The product has been WHO prequalified and widely used in India and other developing countries for routine immunization and high‑risk adult and pediatric populations to prevent acute and chronic hepatitis B and its complications such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.[4][7]
