Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shanyao San (山药散) is a traditional Chinese medicine formulation whose main ingredient is shan yao (Chinese yam; Dioscorea opposita or Dioscoreae Rhizoma). In TCM, it is classified as a tonic herb for Qi deficiency and is used to tonify the Spleen and Stomach, nourish Lung Qi and Yin, and support Kidney function. It is commonly prescribed for symptoms such as fatigue, poor appetite, chronic diarrhea or dysentery, cough with phlegm due to deficiency consumption, frequent urination or spermatorrhea. Modern studies suggest that shan yao may help reduce inflammation, regulate blood sugar levels, and improve immune function. The powder form (san) allows for easy administration in soups or drinks[2][3][5][7].
