Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shanyao Wan, also known as Shuyu Wan or Shanyu Wan, is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the *Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber* (*Jingui Yaolue*) by Zhang Zhongjing. It is a complex polyherbal preparation consisting of 21 ingredients, with *Dioscorea opposita* (Chinese Yam) as the principal component. The formula is specifically designed to treat "deficiency-taxation" (*xu lao*), a state of chronic exhaustion involving deficiency of qi, blood, yin, and yang, often accompanied by lingering external pathogens. It functions by tonifying the spleen and stomach (the middle jiao), nourishing blood, and dispelling wind. Modern pharmacological studies suggest it may possess immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fatigue properties, making it relevant for chronic fatigue syndrome and recovery from debilitating illnesses.
