Shao-gan

Shao-gan is an investigational Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) capsule formulation developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The formulation is derived from the classic TCM formula Shao Yao Gan Cao Tang, which consists of Paeonia lactiflora (White Peony Root) and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Licorice Root). These components are traditionally used to alleviate spasms and pain, and in the context of IPF, they are investigated for their potential anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties. Research suggests that the active constituents, such as paeoniflorin and glycyrrhizic acid, may inhibit the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway, reduce the expression of pro-fibrotic markers, and decrease the production of inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α and IL-6, thereby slowing the progression of lung fibrosis.
