Overview
Shaoqi Yikun is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (Nanjing Hospital of Chinese Medicine) for the treatment of menopausal syndrome (perimenopausal syndrome). The formula is designed to nourish the liver and kidney yin and regulate the Chong and Ren meridians, addressing the core TCM etiology of menopausal symptoms. It typically contains herbal ingredients such as Radix Paeoniae Alba (Bai Shao) and Fructus Lycii (Gou Qi Zi). Clinical research indicates that Shaoqi Yikun effectively modulates the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, leading to increased serum estradiol (E2) levels and decreased levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). This hormonal stabilization helps alleviate clinical symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, and sleep disturbances in perimenopausal women.
