Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shaoyao-Gancao decoction (SYGCD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula consisting of two herbs: Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao) and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), typically prepared in a 1:1 ratio. It is widely utilized in East Asian medicine for its antispasmodic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. In the context of alopecia areata, SYGCD is being investigated for its ability to modulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and neuro-endocrine-immune mechanisms, particularly in patients exhibiting the 'liver stagnation and spleen deficiency' pattern. The formula's primary bioactive constituents include paeoniflorin from peony and glycyrrhizic acid from licorice, which are thought to synergistically regulate hormonal balance and immune responses.
