Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shaoyao Gancao Decoction Jiawei is a modified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula based on the classic Shaoyao Gancao Decoction (SGD). It is composed of *Paeonia lactiflora* (Shaoyao), *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gancao), *Pueraria montana* (Kudzu), and *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen). The formula is primarily developed for the treatment of sleep-related leg cramps (SRLCs), a condition characterized by painful, involuntary muscle contractions during sleep. The mechanism of action involves the synergistic spasmolytic effects of paeoniflorin and glycyrrhizin, which modulate calcium signaling and neuromuscular transmission to relax skeletal muscles. The addition of *Pueraria montana* and *Salvia miltiorrhiza* is intended to enhance peripheral blood circulation and further alleviate muscle tension and pain. The drug is typically administered orally as a decoction.
