Shark-derived PD-L1 nanobody is a single-domain antibody, specifically a Variable New Antigen Receptor (vNAR), developed by Artgen (formerly Human Stem Cells Institute) in collaboration with its subsidiary Proteomarin. This therapeutic agent targets Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), a critical immune checkpoint protein. By inhibiting the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction, the nanobody is designed to modulate immune responses. While PD-L1 inhibitors are a staple in oncology for enhancing anti-tumor T-cell activity, this program is uniquely exploring applications in cardiovascular diseases, where immune checkpoint modulation may address inflammatory processes. The drug is currently in preclinical development, leveraging the high stability and small size characteristic of shark-derived single-domain antibodies.
