Drug intelligence / Profile preview
She-Chuang-Si-Wu-Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine decoction used clinically for approximately 400 years. It is a modification of the classic Si-Wu-Tang formula, containing additional herbs such as Cnidium monnieri ("She Chuang Zi"), intended specifically for skin diseases like psoriasis. SSWT has demonstrated clinical benefit in psoriasis, improving disease scores, reducing epidermal thickness, suppressing spontaneous scratching, and decreasing both local and systemic inflammatory markers. Pharmacological studies suggest the mechanism involves inhibition of inflammation-related STAT3 and MAPK signaling, and potential modulation of IL-17 signaling and T helper 17 (Th17) cell differentiation. Identified active compounds in the SSWT preparation include osthole, matrine, oxymatrine, caffeic acid, and ferulic acid[7].
