Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Shehuang cream** is a topical traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation developed for chronic eczema, particularly the traditional-medicine syndrome described as chronic damp-heat accumulation with dryness generating wind. The cream contains a five-herb prescription derived from the long-standing clinical experience of Professor Ai Rudi and is intended to clear heat and dampness and relieve pruritus. In animal eczema and pruritus models, reported activity included reduced epidermal hyperplasia and inflammatory-cell infiltration; proposed mechanisms included reduced expression of interferon gamma, interleukin 18, interleukin 31, and interleukin 4. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 trial in chronic eczema was subsequently terminated because the 2014 study conduct was considered not fully aligned with current technical requirements.
