Overview
Shen Huang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation, typically prepared as an ointment or powder, used for the treatment of postoperative ileus (POI). Developed and studied by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Zhejiang Province, it is applied topically to the umbilicus (umbilical application) to promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function. The formulation is specifically indicated for patients presenting with "qi stagnation and blood stasis" patterns. It typically contains ingredients such as *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (Rhubarb) and *Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae* (Danshen), which are thought to stimulate intestinal peristalsis, improve local blood circulation, and reduce inflammatory responses in the gut.
