Shen-Ma-Yi-Zhi-Fang (SMYZG) is a Chinese herbal prescription developed at Xiyuan Hospital, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, for the prevention and treatment of vascular dementia. The formulation is a four-herb combination consisting of ginseng (*Panax ginseng* C.A. Mey), *Gastrodia elata* Bl, *Euonymus alatus*, and *Ligusticum chuanxiong* Hort. Its primary active components include ginsenosides, gastrodin, ferulic acid, and quercetin. SMYZG exerts neuroprotective effects and improves learning, memory, and cognitive function by regulating multiple signaling pathways, including AMPK/PPARα/PGC-1α/UCP2, Nrf2/HO-1, HIF-1/VEGF/Notch, and VEGF/Flk-1/p8 MAPK pathways. It is typically prepared as a granule for oral administration.
