Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shen Mi Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula, also known as Shin'mitō in Kampo medicine, used primarily for the treatment of cough and asthma. It is a multi-herb botanical decoction consisting of seven primary ingredients: Ma Huang (Ephedra), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zi Su Ye (Perillae Folium), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix). The formula is traditionally indicated for respiratory conditions characterized by 'wind-cold' patterns, working to regulate lung qi, dissolve phlegm, and alleviate airway inflammation. Clinical research, including a randomized, placebo-controlled trial led by Jong-Jen Kuo, has evaluated its efficacy in treating post-infectious cough of 3 to 8 weeks duration.
