Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shen Ping is a prescribed traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been used for decades in China to treat IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and other kidney conditions. The active components of Shen Ping are mixed-linkage glucans (polysaccharides) that inhibit platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-induced cellular proliferation and signaling in primary human mesangial cells. Specifically, Shen Ping inhibits PDGF-induced phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), Axl, and Akt, thereby preventing mesangial cell activation and proliferation, which are key drivers of glomerular remodeling and disease progression in IgA nephropathy.
