Shenfuqiangxin is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) patent drug formulated as oral pills or capsules. It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF), especially in patients with heart-kidney Yang deficiency syndrome—a TCM diagnostic category characterized by symptoms such as palpitations, breathlessness, chest tightness, puffy face, and swollen limbs. The formulation contains multiple herbal ingredients including Ginseng (Renshen), Radix aconiti carmichaeli (Fuzi), rhubarb (Dahuang), root bark of white mulberry (Sangbaipi), Polyporus umbellata, Semen lepidii (Tinglizi), and grifola (Zhuling). Mechanistically, preclinical studies suggest that Shenfuqiangxin exerts cardioprotective effects by modulating several signaling pathways involved in cardiac hypertrophy and apoptosis—such as inhibiting the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway and regulating Bcl-2/Bax expression to reduce cardiomyocyte apoptosis.
